Current favourite Lip Combo: Korres Purple Red + MAC Amorous

As you may have seen on my recent "What's in my makeup bag" post, I carry three lip products with me these days: a nude(-ish) lipgloss for daytime, and a lip combination for nights out, which is none other than Korres lipliner pencil in 5 Purple Red, paired with MAC Amorous lipstick.

I've mentioned MAC Amorous in the past, but over the years I've grown to love it even more. It's a reddened plum shade with mauve undertones, which  is totally up my street. It's dark, bold and statement-y, yet not as attention commanding as a red lip colour. The finish of Amorous is a satin, and as you can probably tell, it's not the most forgiving on dry lips, but I'm willing to overlook that in favour of that lovely shade!

I was lucky enough to find the perfect lipliner for it (an older magazine freebie) in the form of Korres  lipliner pencil in 05 Purple Red (on the left):

Pretty darn close, no? In fact once you blend the lipliner in a bit, the shade is basically identical! I really enjoy  using this lipliner by Korres, it's a soft pencil, that's very easy to apply, it doesn't smudge or let the lipstick bleed (despite it being probably the softest lipliner I've tried) and it has excellent colour payoff. Definitely need to make a mental note to check out the rest of their shades if I'm on the hunt for a new lipliner.

I'll admit, it's not the "trendy" lip shade du jour or whatever, in fact one would probably best describe it as a "goth" colour, but I think that it's a classic shade that surely doesn't get the credit it deserves. I, for one, will go back for Amorous once it runs out.
