It's pretty cold here at the moment and it's about to get even colder; apparently there's another... coldwave coming up this week, meaning that my dry skin will probably get a little more temperamental than usual.
Thankfully, my cabinet is fully stocked with a variety of moisturisers ready to tackle the task at hand, so, if you're at all bodycare-curious, you might find this somewhat interesting!
Now, let's take a closer look at my little selection and see how each performs:
1. Korres Coconut Milk body milk: An amazing product, equally as good as their more popular body butters, if not better. This body milk has a lovely lightweight formula, and gets absorbed within a few minutes, without leaving any sticky or greasy residue on the skin. This makes it ideal if you're in a hurry and want to get dressed straight away! I find it also pleasantly cooling in the summer months - my skin welcomes it after having roasted in the sun for a while. Scent-wise, I wouldn't say this is particularly coconut-y or exotic, it's more of a milk&honey type of scent in my opinion. Extra points for the ingredients: 92% natural, including almond oil, active aloe, provitamin B5 and shea butter, and excluding mineral oils, silicones, parabens and all the other similar gross stuffs.
2. Garnier Body Intensive 7 Days Repairing body lotion with Shea Butter: Given my skin's needs, my choice from Garnier's 7 Days body lotion range was this one with shea butter, aimed towards extra-dry skin. Now, I'm not sure if picking another one would have made a difference, this one, however, is a little bit tacky and it takes a while to sink in. It is fairly moisturising, but it still leaves me with the impression that it does not nourish and feed my skin enough if that makes sense. The scent is also pretty generic. All that said, the low price makes it a great product for frequent reapplication, or when you're on a budget.
3. The Body Shop Coconut Body Butter: I'm sure you're all familiar with the TBS body butters, so I'll keep it simple. They do a nice job in moisturising the skin, particularly in the winter months or for the drier skintypes. The scent range is what they do best, each one smells yummier than the other, and the coconut one is delicious and highly addictive! I do have a bone to pick with them, though: the formula is way too thick, even for a body butter. It takes ages to get absorbed and the tackiness never quite goes away. Realistically speaking, the product itself could have been better and I feel that if they suddenly made their body butters unscented, noone would really purchase them for the formula alone.
4. Sephora Super Supreme Body Butter: Lastly, a product that I never expected to purchase, but fell in love with ever since I did. First of all, mark the amount: 470ml of product, twice as much as the rest, and if you're lucky to get it with a discount (I think I got it around 12-13 euros), you'll be buying one of the most affordable products of the market per ml. And one of the best might I add: this is a very moisturising product, that feels light (lighter than any body butter I've tried) and spreads easily. No waxy texture like TBS here; this feels just like any regular thick cream. Gorgeous scent too: think fresh-floral, but not too strong. Contains shea, mango and illipe butter, as well as coconut oil and is formulated without parabens and sulfates. Pretty blown away by Sephora once again, more brands should take note!
To sum it up: Sephora is the best, as well as the best value for money, Korres is the lightest, The Body Shop is great for scent junkies and Garnier makes for a nice bargain buy.
Ones I'm gonna repurchase: Korres and Sephora, far more superior than the other two!
So, do spill: which is the best body moisturiser you've ever purchased? Do you feel that the scent alone can sell you a product?
Tina, Body Shop's Body Butters are my HGs for years now, Shea and Coconut are my personal faves, my mother loves the Cherry one! From the drugstore body lotions, I really like Nivea's body milks. But I really wanna try Korres too, I wanna have a body milk without parabens, but iirc I tried a Korres one many years ago, I think it was the green tea one and I hated it, it left a white cast on my body and didn't blend well. Did you have that problem with the Coconut one?? Actually I'm between Coconut and the Jasmine one.
ReplyDelete@SophiaPeaches: Hehe, always nice to meet another scent-driven person! :) Nope, this particular Korres body milk didn't leave any weird looking residue on my skin, it's very light, spreads easily and gets absorbed fast! Btw the scent does not really resemble coconut, this might come in handy when you choose your scent (but then again, I do find that Korres scents, despite being lovely, are often far from the actual fruit/nut scent)!
DeleteI'm so getting the Korres body milk!! You made me really wanna try it! How much does it cost?
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on TBS's greasy formula, but as far as the Garnier moisturiser goes, I was left quite pleased with the results! Anyway, everyone's different!!! :) xxx
@fashion written with a lipstick: Hmm, I'm afraid that the Korres one is not the cheapest, I'd bought it from an online pharmacy store around 12-ish, but I'm willing to bet it's closer to 15 at the actual pharmacy. It's probably the most expensive one per ml, but it's truly a great product, I've never tried anything lighter!
DeleteAs for the TBS formula, I think that we're all lured by their scents and nth more really!
And the Garnier one is not a bad per se (btw which one did you try?), but having tried a variety of body lotions and butters, I feel it can't compete with some of the other ones...! Xx
yeah you're right on this one, I actually tried the same one as you with Shea Butter. *dry skins ahem* :) xx
Deletei've tried both TBS and KORRES (the jasmine scent).
ReplyDeletei agree with you, for the tbs one, about the tackiness although , imo, it gets absorbed but somehow you "feel" it on your skin. and their smell it's divine. it stays on my pyjamas too and i love it.
my only problem with korres is that i consume it in far less time than the other body milks.
my next choice would be garnier or a korres body butter.
in the past i had tried a sephora body milk but after a while(silly me) i noticed that it was full in parabens and since then i haven't bought any. i'll have a look in this, too.
@evi: Yes, if you want the scent to linger during the day, you have to pick TBS (although I found some scents a little too strong - as in I could smell it through my jeans hours after applying it, I think it was the mango one)!!! I just with the texture wasn't so thick and "waxy"!
DeleteWhat type of skin do you have? Do you feel that you have to use more of the Korres milk to keep you moisturised?
As for the Sephora one, this one is formulated without parabens - but then again, this is not their classic scented range (the one with the many colours/scents) so cannot be too sure about those!
I have tried them all but as to my skin need and for some of their ingredients i stopped but i really like the Body Shop One since i am a scent junky, and the Body shop one is also good for my skin and very mosturizing, but i am avoiding skin products from Sephora due to their usage of Paraben.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely week and an award is waiting for you here http://distinguisheddiva.blogspot.com/2012/01/am-kreativ-blogger.html
you blog is lovely!

@Diva Naomi Addy: Thank you girlie, I'll check it out - I'm really unorganised when it comes to tags and awards...! :/
DeleteAs for the body butters, both the TBS and this Sephora one have very similar ingredients: neither contains parabens, though they both contain silicones - yet the TBS one is thicker, whereas the Sephora feels much lighter! x
I am also using a Korres body milk right now, the Jasmine version. And I can't believe I still haven't tried the BodyShop butters :(
ReplyDelete@Marina(Makeup4all): Is the Jasmine as lightweight as the Coconut Milk I tried? As for the TBS body butters, they make great scents, they're good for winter and dry skin, but I fear that if you've tried a little more high-end than that, chances are you won't be wowed by its texture. Xxx
DeleteThe only moisturizer I tried out of the four you reviewed is the Body Shop Body Butter. I've used a number of their various scented body butters and I couldn't agree more with you that the formula sucks but the scent is what sold it to me. So for that reason, I actually always mix half a scented moisturizer with half of my HG body moisturizer (Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion) so that way I get the best of both worlds (scent + moisture).
ReplyDeleteOh and I forgot to write this in your latest post but Good Luck with your exams coming up Hun :)
@Karen Law: Thank you sweetie for your wishes!!! And also, thanx for the great tip: using the TBS body butters mixed with another lotion/body butter sounds like a great idea - would make it easier to use up too!!! ;) Hope everything's well with you! xxx
